Our Story

Help Human Options reach our goal of raising $10,000 this Giving Day! Make your gift today and your donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $5,000!

Your support will make it possible to provide life-changing mental health services to survivors and their children, like Nancy and her family, as they heal from the physical and emotional trauma from experiencing relationship violence.

Did you know?

  • One in four women and one in seven men report that they have experienced physical or sexual violence from their intimate partner as an adult.
  • Individuals who have experienced domestic violence are twice as likely to develop depression as women who have not. (National Institute of Mental Health)
  • Children who witness domestic violence are at a higher risk for mental health issues, including depression, anxiety and PTSD. (American Academy of Pediatrics)
  • Relationship violence has devastating physical, psychological, and economic consequences for victims and their children. In addition to physical injuries, relationship violence is associated with PTSD, depression, suicide ideation, and substance abuse. The potential consequences of childhood exposure to domestic violence include serious trauma, anxiety, programs at school, aggressive behavior, as well as short-term and long-term health problems.

Your gift today can ensure that individuals and families who have experienced relationship violence can get the support they need as they heal from their trauma. Human Options provides trauma-informed mental health services to focus on increasing adaptive coping skills and resiliency, improving mental health, reducing depression and anxiety, and empowering survivors to break the intergenerational cycle of domestic violence.

Double your impact!

Make your gift today and your donation will be matched dollar for dollar by Linda and Clay Richardson!

Together, we can create a future in which every person and family in Orange County experiences safe, healthy relationships and lives free from fear!

About Human Options

Over forty years ago, four south Orange County women said enough was enough. They had heard enough stories, like Nancy's, and were determined to ensure that no one was afraid in their own home. Originally starting as a hotline and six-bed shelter, Human Options has grown to provide a 36-bed emergency shelter, housing options, legal advocacy, community based services, counseling and prevention education services to more than 10,000 adults annually. Since opening our doors, Human Options has prevented, protected, empowered and transformed the lives of over 500,000 individuals.

Our Mission

We ignite social change by educating Orange County to recognize relationship violence as an issue that threatens everyone, advocating for those affected by abuse, extending a safe place for victims and empowering survivors on their journey of healing.

Our Vision

We are committed to a future in which every person and family in Orange County experiences safe, healthy relationships and lives free of fear.
